What is Dex?

Dex is Exmergo's open-source, agent-native analytics engineering toolkit, released under Apache 2.0. It runs inside Claude Code and other coding agents across three loops: Explore your warehouse, Transform it into dbt models and semantic definitions, and Maintain them as schemas drift. The dbt project stays the source of truth and every change arrives as a reviewable diff.

How do Dex and Viz work together?

Dex is where the data team does the upstream work: exploring the warehouse, authoring tested dbt models, and defining the metrics, dimensions, and join paths that make up the semantic layer. Viz reads that same governed layer and turns it into dashboards business users can build themselves, so a chart in Viz resolves against the definition the data team maintains rather than a copy of it.

What is Viz?

Viz is the visualization agent for your semantic layer. It reads the metrics, dimensions, and join paths your team already governs and turns them into interactive dashboards. A business user asks for a metric in plain English and Viz resolves it against your definitions, with no SQL and no re-modeling inside a BI tool. Viz also supports CSV and Excel uploads for teams without a semantic layer yet.

Try Viz in its hosted app at https://viz.exmergo.com, where Viz Pro and Ultra start with a 14-day free trial. There is no single Exmergo account or platform-wide trial; each product is tried on its own.

How do Dex Enterprise and Exmergo Enterprise differ?

Dex Enterprise is the paid, organization-wide Dex workflow: it turns data requests and scheduled drift into governed, human-reviewed dbt changes inside infrastructure your team controls. Exmergo Enterprise is the broader platform that brings Dex, Ace, and Viz together across analytics engineering and data consumption, with RBAC, PII policy, and audit trails connecting them. They are distinct offerings.

Is Ace available?

Not yet. Ace, the Agent Context Engine, is in private preview and is not generally available. It serves a governed semantic layer to every agent as permission-aware context, and we are working with a small group of design partners while we build it.
